Prepress Technician

Job Summary:
DPPS is seeking an experienced prepress technician to work in our offset and digital print facility. In this role, you can use your prepress experience and customer service skills to help our great team serve the UW campus and beyond!

UW-Madison’s Digital Publishing and Printing Services (DPPS) is the largest in-house print production center within the State of Wisconsin government. Our new state-of-the-art facility is located on Madison’s east side (off campus) on Stoughton Road.
Responsibilities: Modifies electronic, customer-supplied art files making color, text, and digital image corrections to assure proper format, appearance, and layout per job details and press specifications. Works with designers and customers to address and resolve file problems.

  • 55% Creates, proofreads, edits, formats, and manipulates graphics and print files to achieve print ready files for offset and digital printing
  • 15% Utilizes imposition, color separation, and trapping skills
  • 15% Works with peers and other departments to improve quality and performance
  • 10% Provides clients with information and guidance on creating print ready files
  • 5% Follows standard operating procedures based on established standards to meet customer expectations

-Basic computer and smart phone knowledge
-Previous prepress or graphic design education or work experience
-Attention to detail
-Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently
-Strong sense of time organization and urgency
-Ability to work independently and within a team

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday 7:30am – 4:00pm. May require occasional work to be completed outside of normal business hours.

Starting hourly rate will be based on experience and qualifications. Well qualified applicants can anticipate an hourly rate between $25.00 – $26.00, with final hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

Must be able to frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted and occasionally stand for long periods of time. Must be able to walk, sit, push, pull and stoop occasionally.
