Job Summary
The City of Bellevue is currently seeking a Recreation Program Technician for the North Bellevue Community Center (NBCC). This is a generalist position that will provide administrative, program and special event support to recreation staff with an emphasis on grant reporting, marketing, and advertising programs and soliciting for donations and sponsorships. Programs will include, but not limited to, adult, older adult, family, intergenerational, sports, trips, dementia friendly and outdoor recreation. The position will require a ‘self-starter’ person with strong communication and community/public relation skills. Hours are mainly days with some evening-time program assistance; however, hours may fluctuate to accommodate events and programs. Positions in this classification provide clerical and program support to recreation/community programs or program facilities.
Distinguishing Characteristics:Recreation Program Technician is distinguished from Recreation Coordinator by its role in lending program support to activities or facilities. The Recreation Coordinator has supervisory responsibility, funding responsibility and plans and develops programs. The position is further distinguished from Administrative positions by its emphasis on direct program participant/activity support, as opposed to general office and administrative support work.
Working Schedule: This is for a variable, partially benefitted employee (PBE) position. The hours will be approximately 15-20 hours per week. Hours are mainly days with some evening-time program assistance; however, hours may fluctuate to accommodate events and programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the Program Coordinator or Instructor with keeping participants safe, happy, and actively involved in select programs; provides direct assistance to those in need; instructs programs as needed.
- Transports participants to and from program activities; provides support to staff and participants at special events, tournaments, field trips and community outings.
- Provides limited information and referral to program participants with special needs, their families and friends, and the general public.
- Prepares program sites for specific programs; moves equipment and supplies as needed for the day’s program schedule; sets up rooms for meetings.
- Provides for refreshments, audio-visual equipment and handouts as requested; puts away equipment, materials, and cleans up after programs.
- Delivers and picks up materials and supplies, distributes marketing materials throughout the city and county.
- Maintains passenger vehicles by ensuring they have gas, are cleaned and washed, and that they receive proper and timely maintenance.
- Processes program registrations and collects program fees; maintains required forms and information for each participant.
- Collects and maintains straightforward statistical information, including attendance data, participant characteristic data, team scores and averages, etc.; collects data needed for payroll.
- Serves as facility receptionist, answers the telephone, takes messages, routes calls; greets participants and visitors, provides information and answers questions about the facility and/or programs; directs building users to their assigned area and orients them to the building.
- Maintains calendars for program schedules, building usage, van and driver scheduling, rentals and special events.
- Types a variety of material using a computer; copies, collates and proofreads material; writes routine letters and memos; files reports, participant information and other administration information and communications.

- Supervises participants before and after scheduled programs.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- General office experience and considerable experience in dealing directly and regularly with the general public.
- Knowledge of the program characteristics, theories and practices specific to recreation events and programs.
- Knowledge of general office procedures; knowledge of building and program security practices.
- Knowledge of safety practices and ability to recognize and eliminate unsafe situations or conditions.
- Ability to communicate in a concise and articulate manner with a wide variety of persons; ability to provide clear instructions.
- Ability to be sensitive to the needs of staff, the general public and program participants, and work with them in the most appropriate manner.
- Ability to maintain accurate and diverse records; skill in doing basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and averages.
- Ability to work on several different tasks at once; ability to deal well with frequent interruptions and demands; ability to be flexible and to adapt to different and ever-changing situations and people.
- Skill in writing clear and concise letters and memos; skill in synthesizing written information into succinct notes or outlines.
- Skill in use of computer and Microsoft programs.
- Skill in driving a vehicle safely in all kinds of traffic and weather conditions.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
- Education or training in recreation programming or area directly related to intergenerational and older adult programs is desirable.
- Persons in this classification must acquire and maintain a First Aid/CPR Certificate and an Intermediate endorsement on their Washington State Driver’s License.
- Depending on the assignment, they must also have no history of conviction or crime against any person or no finding in any legal action of having sexually assaulted or exploited or physically abused any minor.

Paydays – The City of Bellevue pays employees on the 8th and the 23rd of each month (24 pay periods per year).
Please note that the City does not participate in the Social Security Administration (SSA) program, and employees do not earn social security credits. The mandatory DRS retirement pension plan provides the required social security replacement plan. Any social security benefits earned at other places of employment may be reduced because they are subject to the Windfall Elimination Provision or the Government Pension Offset.
