Position Summary
To supervise, plan and coordinate diverse recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities; to coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public; and to provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Community Recreation Division Manager.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, in business administration, recreation, education, social work, related field, and
Five (5) years recreation program planning experience. To include:
Two (2) years direct supervisory experience in a management and/or administrative capacity.
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge
- Operational characteristics, services and activities of a recreation program for people with disabilities
- Principles and practices of therapeutic recreation program planning and implementation
- Modern and complex principles and practices of grant writing
- Principles of municipal budget preparation and control
- Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Plan, organize, monitor and promote grant funded projects
- Elicit community and organizational support for therapeutic recreation programs
- Supervise, direct and coordinate the work of lower level staff
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff
- Interpret and explain City therapeutic recreation policies and procedures
- Provide consultation and training to the community in regard to the leisure needs and concerns of people
- with disabilities
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including
- a variety of City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public
- Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating
- intellectual capabilities
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
- Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties
