The Boeing Company is seeking an upbeat, highly motivated, and dedicated Senior Intellectual Property Professional with a systems and electrical engineering or software background to join its Boeing Intellectual Property (BIP) department. This person will be internal client-facing to our Engineering Test and Technology (ET&T) clients, managing all of their IP-related matters and coordinating with internal counsel as needed, developing IP strategies and portfolios in alignment with their goals, and providing early support to external engagement and Government related proposal activities. This position reports to the ET&T Intellectual Property director and can be located in Tukwila, WA; Seal Beach, CA; Plano, TX; Hazelwood, MO or North Charleston, SC.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide IP support to ET&T internal clients relating to systems engineering, artificial intelligence, software, and electrical and electronics technologies
- Develop IP strategies and portfolios around the client product and technologies, including invention harvesting, conducting IP competitive analysis, and portfolio shaping
- Support external engagement such as collaboration and Government related proposals activities, including determining winning IP strategies and data rights strategies and supporting the preparation of data assertion tables
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. On-site work will be at a minimum of 3 days per week.
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering
- Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- 3+ years of experience protecting software-related innovation
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 7+ years of IP experience, including reviewing invention submissions, patent prosecution, driven IP analysis, supporting Gov.-related proposal activities, and supporting university or research organizations collaboration
- Experience protecting innovation in the fields of aerospace systems engineering, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, or electrical engineering
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in system engineering, software engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering.
- In-house IP experience
- Communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Business judgment and critical thinking
Typical Education & Experience:
Technical bachelor’s degree and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or a Master’s degree with typically 12 or more years’ or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Relocation:

Summary pay range: $131,750-$190,900
