Data Scientist – Survey Science

The Brand Marketing Data Science team serves a meaningful role at Uber by providing data-driven insights to advise and optimize brand marketing strategies. Our team owns the measurement, analysis, and reporting of brand campaigns, trackers, and experimental data for both lines of business (Mobility and Delivery) for our key global markets. We work cross-functionally with other scientists, researchers, and marketers to improve the growth, retention, and engagement of Uber and Uber Eats users.

About the Role

We are seeking a Survey Scientist to build and leverage survey-related insights to advise Brand Marketing strategies. This person in this role will have expertise in research design, psychometrics, and other quantitative methods, as well as a deep understanding of consumer behavior and market trends!

What You’ll Do

– Work with cross-functional partners to improve their decisions with analytics and survey research: understand the decisions to be made and the vital research to support those decisions with appropriate complexity/rigor
Design and conduct research studies of survey and behavioral data, 1st and 3rd party, to develop insights on our users. Develop an understanding of demographic, behavioral and attitudinal trends and the general population
– Develop survey instruments and sampling plans that produce reliable and valid data, and apply psychometric principles to ensure the accuracy of survey results.
– Lead multi-stage data management process in each project, including data quality checks, data cleaning, data dictionary construction, statistical analysis and reporting
Synthesize and communicate insights to cross-functional teams to enable adoption of data-driven insights and recommendations
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale and optimize company-wide survey governance
– Provide thought leadership in issues and trends related to advances in survey and measurement methodologies

Basic Qualifications

– Master’s degree in social science, statistics or related field, with emphasis on quantitative methods
– 2-4 years of work experience crafting and conducting survey-based research
– Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to present research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
– Highly proficient in survey analysis skills, including regression analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and conjoint analysis
– Strong programming skills in SQL, R or Python
– Expertise working with Qualtrics or similar survey design tools

Preferred Qualifications

– PhD in social science with an emphasis in quantitative methods, statistics, or a similar field
– Previous experience in a survey science team or data science team with a focus on brand marketing or consumer behavior
– Experimental analysis skills, including A/B testing
– Outstanding problem-solving skills: understanding a business question, developing a research plan, implementing the research plan, conducting the analysis, and synthesizing insights for technical and non-technical audiences

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $140,000 per year – $156,000 per year.
