Job Description
The City of Burlington’s Recreation & Parks Department is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of part time Afterschool Counselor. The Afterschool Counselor is responsible for keeping the participants safe while having fun, and assisting directors and fellow counselors with daily housekeeping duties. The counselor’s responsibilities include always displaying positive leadership and guidance to the children. A positive rapport between children, parents, and staff needs to be maintained when dealing with behavioral conflicts and the daily operation of the program. Treat children equally and be consistent with discipline. Safety among children and staff is always a top priority, be sure to adhere to the City’s safety policies.

- Job duties include organizing and implementing structured activities and games for children ages 5-14, keeping the participants safe while having fun, and assisting directors and fellow counselors with daily housekeeping duties.
Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Ideal candidates should possess great communication skills to ensure the highest level of customer service and have knowledge of safe work practices.
- Outgoing and positive attitude.
- Dependable and trustworthy.
- Previous experience working with children is desired.
- Reliable transportation
- First Aid/CPR certification are desired.
Supplemental Information
Monday-Friday, 2:15pm-6:00pm & on occasional Early Release Days, 11:15-6:00pm (days and times may vary).
The program will operate during the traditional school year from August 2023- June 2024.
The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
