POSITION DESCRIPTION
Implements and supervises activities, programs, and special events at the Fife Aquatic Center.

This position is responsible for supervising large groups of children as well as adults; providing a safe, fun and engaging atmosphere for all participants. Must maintain flexibility and be available to meet with supervisory staff as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Facilitates special projects and programs with staff and community partners.
  • Supervises activities in aquatic center.
  • Assists with supervision of volunteers and program participants.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Teaches swim lessons, performs lifeguarding or other duties related to aquatic programming.
  • Communicates feedback between participants and program supervisor.
  • Prepares documents such as letters, program evaluation forms, swimmer progress reports, memos, accident reports, daily logs, updates membership database, etc.
  • Performs cashier and front desk reception responsibilities.
  • Answers public questions regarding programs and facilities.
  • Supervises the maintenance of equipment, supplies and facilities.
  • Maintains compliance with all applicable City, County and State laws and City ordinances, policies and procedures at all times.
  • Performs minor maintenance / custodial duties.
  • Performs facility opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Utilizes REC1 software system to process program registrations, “point-of-sale” transactions, and updating of client / patron accounts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Acts as the backup staff member to the Aquatics Leader 2 position as necessary.
  • Performs cashier duties and cash-out responsibilities as needed.
  • Performs and records pool chemical testing.
  • Performs pool cleaning and maintenance duties.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum one year related experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at time of hire.

REQUIRED LICENSES/TRAINING:

  • As a swim instructor, no certifications are required prior to start date.
  • As a lifeguard all required certifications must be completed and continually maintained in a current status in CPR, First Aid, Blood-Borne pathogens, AED and Lifeguard Training.

OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS (not required)

  • Bilingual ability beneficial.
  • Sign Language experience beneficial
  • WSI or Swim America Certified.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Working knowledge of aquatic programs, services and appropriate activities for teens, youth and toddlers; strong interest in working with teens, youth and toddlers.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with a wide variety of program participants and community members.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.
  • Accurately prepare reports, weekly calendars, program evaluation forms, progress reports, memos, accident reports, and other written material as assigned.
  • Independently initiate and complete work activities.
  • Must be creative and energetic.
  • Ability to work with participants and city staff, teens and co-workers from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Possess strong communication skills with the ability to understand and give verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize conflict-resolution strategies.
  • Explain and enforce facility and program guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong interest and ability to lead activities involving aquatics.
  • General knowledge of aquatic programs and philosophies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with program participants, city staff, volunteers and the general public.
  • Ability and willingness to work irregular hours.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective problem solving skills with facility renters and program patrons.
  • Maintain professional appearance and wear program uniform as required.
  • Strong interest in working with toddlers and young children under 12 years old.
  • Accurately and effectively respond to the Aquatic Center’s Emergency Action Plan.
  • Accurately and punctually prepares progress reports.
  • Knows the levels of each swimmer in his/her class, knows the skills to be taught in the class, and knows how to effectively and safely manage and teach the class-appropriate swimming skills.
  • Knows the procedure and techniques to handle general first aid situations.
  • Attend all staff-required in-services and training.
  • Maintain all required certifications including blood-borne pathogens, AED, 1st Aid, CPR, and lifeguard training.
  • Meet necessary swimming skills to effectively teach swim lessons to and through the first 6 levels of the Swim America learn to swim program.
