Description
Cary is seeking organized and enthusiastic individuals at least 18 years of age to assist in the day-to-day operations of Cary Action Sports, an outdoor action sports facility that offers unique experiences for athletes through programming, special events, and open sessions. In this position, you will support guests and participants by processing customer inquiries, entering program registration data, handling general office duties, and sharing information about departmental programs. Applicants should be friendly, responsible, and customer service-oriented.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
This position requires a flexible schedule with availability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
Typical Tasks

Opens and/or closes and secures the facility when assigned;

Sells items through Point of Sale and performs basic accounting for money received through the cash register;

Enforces Cary policies and procedures;

Takes program participation counts and keeps track of volunteer hours for reporting purposes;

Notifies patrons of cancelations, changes or updates;

Registers and withdraws citizens from Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources programs;

Serves as a receptionist, answers telephone, and greets the public in person;

Receives and, when possible, responds to citizen inquiries, complaints, or requests for services;

Provides Town information and materials to citizens or redirects to the appropriate staff;

Maintains citizen accounts;

Processes customer refunds;

Updates lobby/facility display boards;

Performs light housekeeping as needed;

Assists with setup, oversight, and cleanup of special events (decoration, food service, trash);

Operates standard office equipment;

Notifies supervisor of needed supplies and facility issues and follows up as needed;

Operates computer, including analyzing and preparing reports and performing data entry;

Processes accurate deposits within established deadlines;

Conducts tours of facility and rental space, providing verbal information as well as specified handouts regarding reservation process and policies, etc.;

Processes basic room reservations;

Proactively identifies facility needs and initiates tasks;

Assists in the orientation and training of new temporary staff and serves as an example to employees on The Cary Way;

Assists with periodic inventory and restocking of supplies and resale items;

Completes First Aid/CPR training;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of computers and related software; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline; skill in the operation of common office equipment; general knowledge of cash collection procedures; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to communicate effectively; ability to deal with the public in a firm but tactful manner; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the center, division and department; ability to maintain filing systems.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Requires education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.

Requires some general clerical and public contact experience.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
