Purpose of Position
Incumbent serves as Temporary Maintenance Laborer/Golf Course for Parks and Recreation, responsible for maintaining assigned golf course grounds, facilities and equipment. This temporary position is of a limited duration for the purpose of maintaining the golf course during golfing season.
Essential Job Functions
Maintains golf course grounds, including picking up litter daily, mowing/trimming grass, reseeding as needed, applying fertilizer, removing leaves, trimming/removing trees and limbs, and occasionally applying pesticides as needed.
Changes course set-up, such as moving tee blocks, cutting cups, and replacing cup pins.
Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on golf course equipment, such as tractors, mowers, backhoe, front-end loader, chipper, and club cars.
Assists in maintaining buildings and other structures, such as golf course bridges, including painting/ patching walls, and making minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs, such as unclogging toilets, changing light bulbs and ballasts, and repairing signs.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED preferred. Education and/or experience in building, grounds and/or equipment maintenance preferred.
Possession of or ability to obtain certifications in CPR and First Aid within required time period.
Working knowledge of various mechanical trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical, and ability to properly operate various hand and power tools, such as hammers, screw drivers, wrenches, grinder, sander and power saws.
Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and ability to properly operate various related tools and equipment, such as post hole digger, pruner, shovel, rake, chain saw, brush chipper, bush hog, riding and power mowers, hedge trimmers, grader, backhoe, front-end loader and tractor.
Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the position, including exerting sustained physical effort, bending, reaching, crouching/kneeling, standing/walking for long periods, working in awkward positions for long periods, climbing ladders, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, handling/grasping/fingering objects, hearing mechanical sounds, and close/far vision.
Working knowledge of the City of Noblesville Civilian Employee Personnel Policy Handbook and ability to apply these regulations/standards to employment.
Working knowledge of universal health precautions and City’s Blood borne Pathogens Control Plan, and ability to apply such knowledge on the job to protect oneself from infection.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, and work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision.
Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and occasionally with golf course patrons, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to regularly work extended and/or weekend hours, occasionally work evening hours.
Possession of a valid Indiana driver’s license, a demonstrated safe driving record, and must remain insurable through the City of Noblesville’s liability insurance carrier. (Refer to the Civilian Personnel Policy for additional information.)
This position works through October 31, 2023, up to 40 hours per week.
Work Environment
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers and occasionally with golf course patrons for the purpose of exchanging information.
Reports directly to Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
Incumbent’s duties involve bending, reaching, crouching/kneeling, standing/walking for long periods, working in awkward positions for long periods, climbing ladders, pushing/pulling/lifting/ carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, handling/grasping/fingering objects, hearing mechanical sounds, and close/far vision. Incumbent may exert continuous physical effort, but normal duties do not involve prolonged intense physical strain.
Incumbent performs duties indoors and outdoors involving occasional work in high places and on ladders, and exposure to dust, dirt, grease, fumes, adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials, toxic chemicals, power tools and heavy machinery, for which safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Incumbent regularly works extended and weekend hours, occasionally works evening hours, and occasionally travels out of town for training, sometimes overnight.
This position is identified as having occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
Temporary employees are those who are not assigned to a full-time or part-time status. Employment assignments in this category are of a limited duration and individuals may be scheduled to work up to or exceeding forty (40) hours per week. Employment beyond an initial stated period does not in any way apply a change in employment status. Temporary employees retain that status until expressly notified of the change. While temporary employees do receive all legally mandated benefits, they are ineligible for all of the City’s non-mandated benefits.
