Responsibilities
The Center for Procedural Innovation (CPI) provides state-of-the-art equipment, instrumentation, and expert staff services to support the needs of all Mayo educators, innovators and researchers. The CPI Technician is responsible for supporting the Center’s activities, preparing the training environment, supporting course needs, care and operation of the Center’s equipment, instrumentation, and environment. The CPI Technician will handle cadaveric and non-human tissue, manage inventory, assist with data collection/management, dispose of hazardous wastes according to policy/protocol, and assist with surgical procedures and anesthetic monitoring and support activities as assigned to maintain quality and effective education. The Center’s activities frequently occur outside of the usual working hours, most commonly on nights and weekends.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in life science (e.g., Vet Tech, Mortuary Science, Surgical Tech) or healthcare related field and three (3) years of experience working in the field of surgery within a hospital or clinical setting; OR, Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences (e.g., Vet Tech, Mortuary Science, Surgical Tech) or healthcare related field and one (1) year of experience working in the field of surgery within a hospital or clinical setting. Demonstrated proficiency of operating room techniques and instrumentation required. Must have the ability to work independently, with little supervision. Ability to be flexible and adapt to unpredictable situations. Flexibility in work hours that includes off hours, nights and weekends. Excellent problem solving, communication, and organizational skills. Experienced with procedures and anesthesia of non-human models preferred.Certified Surgical Technician or Veterinary Technician license with surgical experience preferred.
