Job Description:

The University of Florida Small Animal Hospital is looking for an exceptional individual who has a passion for teaching and wants to see others grow and develop in the field of Veterinary Technology.
The Veterinary Technician education specialist oversees the basic training and development of our veterinary technicians and is the main point person for staff participating in our tuition assistance program. The individual will play a key role in the onboarding process for new employees by accessing staff and ensuring they have a good foundation of skills and knowledge to be successful. This person will develop and implement successful training programs that utilize materials to facilitate on-site staff training, document participation and results, and provide feedback to managers and supervisors. For the tuition assistant program, the individual will oversee the progress of those in the program and coordinate their externships to successful ensure they have successfully completed the necessary skills.

Job duties include but not limited to
• Creates a teaching environment that promotes education and development of staff and students in a safe and welcoming environment.
• Develop, implement, and maintain standardized training programs for staff for basic skills.
• Assist staff in learning various techniques, protocols, and procedures.
• Create Standard Operating Procedures for the use of new equipment and procedures
• Partners with team leaders in developing training programs
• Oversight of our Tuition Assistance Program.
• Monitors staff progress and ensures they have the opportunities to meet the required skills needed to complete their externships.
• Act as a tutor when needed for those who need assistance in their program
• Observe and sign off on skills
• Work with managers to develop, implement, and maintain assessment testing for staff to measure and benchmark technical and clinic skills and knowledge and determine areas that need more education and training.
• Develop OSCE for skill assessments
• Communicate with managers and supervisors on areas that need improvement for staff
• Organize and schedule regular in-house CE for staff. This should include a wide range of topics but will also need to meet the requirements of accreditations such as VECCS, AAHA, and Cat Friendly.
• Organize CPR training into ensure areas are trained twice a year
• Analyzes and evaluates external training resources, including software packages, instructional guides, and instructors, with consideration for cost, impact, and suitability.

Expected Salary:

$30-$35/hr

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Must be a credentialed veterinary Technician and graduate from an accredited veterinary technology program
• Experience developing training materials
