Overview
The Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI) (ds4si.org) partners with communities, artists, and social justice practitioners to imagine, demonstrate, and collectively rebuild places to be more just and vibrant. Situated at the intersections of design thinking and practice, social justice and activism, public art and social practice and civic / popular engagement, DS4SI designs and tests social interventions with and on behalf of marginalized populations, controversies and ways of life. DS4SI is a fiscally sponsored program of TSNE (tsne.org).
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Director of Communications and other DS4SI staff to shape the graphic language and style guide of DS4SI, including website, print materials, promotional materials for social media, etc.
- Work with Methodology & Strategy Lead to shape and lead design-research projects (such as Night Life Lab, Rearranging Philanthropy, Permitting Cohort, etc.).
- Work with co-founders, Ecology of Thought Lead, and IAE consultant to deepen our design research capacity and toolset.
- Support residents, artists, merchants, youth, and others in designing and prototyping terrain and user research that supports their ability to imagine new arrangements for public life in their neighborhoods.
- Work with Design Gym Lead and others to build out Design Gym kits that support design research, including terrain and user research and more.
Qualifications
We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.
- At least 5 years of experience in design research, particularly in communities of color and with BIPOC artists.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in graphic design.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong time and task management skills.
- Respect for economic and cultural diversity, experience working with diverse groups of people.
- Highly motivated and independent, yet team-oriented.
Additional Skills and Experience
- Conversant in Spanish, Haitian Creole or Cape Verdean Creole a plus.
- Background in training or graphic facilitation.

Compensation and Benefits
Location: Work will be primarily performed Dorchester, MA.
Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $65,000/yr and is commensurate with experience.
