Job Summary

This position will facilitate the PSEG law department’s efforts on Long Island to drive functional excellence in litigation by managing litigation, including complex litigation and government investigations and ancillary matters affecting litigation. The role in conjunction with the Director – Litigation, as well as the PSEG Long Island Managing Director & Vice President – Legal Services, supports litigation in a broad range of matters in both state and federal court, including commercial, environmental, personal injury, property damage, real estate, bankruptcy and collection matters.

Job Responsibilities

This attorney will both directly represent the Company and manage outside counsel in litigated matters, and appear and advocate for the Company in courts, alternative dispute resolution and other forums. The position will have lead responsibility on those matters with limited supervision or direction. The role will develop and manage budgets and case management skills for efficient and effective management of cases. In addition, the role will collaborate with senior lawyers and business partners to provide strategic guidance and solutions to protect and mitigate risk to the company.

As an Assistant Counsel, this attorney will be expected to interact with senior business leaders.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Member in good standing of the New York Bar
  • 5+ years of general defense litigation experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Professionalism, integrity, and excellent customer/client focus
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility, and a strong work ethic; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be detail oriented and demonstrate excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to exercise exceptional judgment and ability to assess risk
  • Ability to work independently and under time constraints in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Prior in-house counsel and/or major law firm experience preferred
