Responsibilities

State Farm is seeking data scientists with Life and Health insurance industry experience. As a Data Scientist on this team, you will help our Life/Health insurance business partners build advanced analytic solutions to help drive results for the enterprise. You will serve not just as a subject matter expert and consultant, but also as a teacher. Through this role, you will work to increase the use of analytics for decision making across the company.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Completed Masters or other advanced degrees in an analytical field such as statistics, mathematics, economics, data science, quantitative marketing, operations research, industrial engineering, etc.
  • Life insurance predictive modeling experience a must
  • Experience building advanced analytic solutions using generalized linear models and at least one of the following: time series analysis, cluster analysis, tree-based algorithms, or neural networks
  • Experience with at least one statistical programming language: SAS, R, and/or Python

Other Things We Look For:

  • Actuarial exam progress and actuarial work experience
  • Experience with accelerated underwriting programs, mortality modeling, survival models, and experience studies
  • Experience gathering and interpreting business requirements to design and create scalable data science solutions in a regulated environment (e.g., insurance, healthcare, and finance)
  • Experience with data cleansing, feature creation, feature selection, value imputation and dependent variable analysis
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with multiple, diverse stakeholders across business areas and leadership levels
  • Sound judgment when diagnosing and resolving problems within an area of expertise
  • Experience in prioritizing work using the Agile framework
  • Familiarity with DevOps systems such as GitLab

REMOTE: Qualified candidates (outside of hub locations listed below) may be considered for 100% remote work arrangements based on where a candidate currently resides or is currently located.

HYBRID: Qualified candidates (in or near hub locations listed below) should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment.

Salary Range: $85,460 – $150,700

For California, NYC, and CT candidates:

Potential salary range: $85,460-$171,250

Potential yearly incentive pays up to 15% of base salary
