Light Rail Training Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

Designs, develops, and delivers Light Rail (LR) operations training programs. Assists with all aspects of UTA LR Operations Training and works with other training professionals and stakeholders. Assists with curriculum control and record-keeping processes. Partners in the curriculum development of current and new operator/supervisor training, refresher training, Operator Instructor training, and others as requested. Assists in analyzing performance outcomes related to operations training, measuring operations training program outcomes (e.g. test design, course surveys, and ongoing service unit operator/supervisor development and instructor evaluation). Schedules training events, coordinates with instructors, obtains and distributes required instructional materials, and communicates schedules and details. Performs special projects as requested by LR Training Administrator, LR Training Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Associates degree required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in training and development, instructional design or a related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years experience, to include rail transportation, supervision, operating instruction, union position, training, learning and development, instructional design or curriculum development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of data entry processing, and SharePoint.
  • Adept in applying adult learning theory, coaching practices, and instructor development.
  • Must have a valid Utah Driver’s License.
  • Be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years.
  • Cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.

Knowledge:

  • Intermediate knowledge of training program design and implementation
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS-PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with record archiving procedures
  • Intermediate experience in Learning Management System (LMS) administration

Abilities:

  • Must be able to pass and acquire DOT medical certification.
  • Must be able to pass FRA required Audiometric and Colorblind tests.
  • Pass and maintain the requirements for a Train Operator license
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job to include regular walking in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, floor to waist lifting up to 25 lbs. regularly, reaching/lifting overhead up to 10 lbs., climbing into and out of a Rail Service vehicle at non-station locations, kneeling and working in tight spaces to lace trains, and prolonged periods of sitting and standing. Able to perform functions of the job in inclement weather situations.
