Appointment Type: Full-Time Temporary (FTT)
Location: Oak Ridge, TN or Remote (US Based Locations)
*Salary Range: $21.80 – $30.33 per hour
PURPOSE: Intern will receive hands-on, strategic, problem-solving experience in identifying and utilizing data and logical thinking to enable insights into recruiting and outreach, communications, and engagement activities for ORISE STEM WD programs. Intern will serve as a member of a collaborative team focused on identifying best-in-class strategies to communicate, develop, and enhance the value of ORISE programs; supporting outreach, recruitment, and engagement activities; and creating a diverse and collaborative community designed to support the future of STEM.
Responsibilities
- Assists and supports STEM WD staff, specifically the ORISE Participant Experience Team (OPET), by:

- Identifying, tracking, organizing, integrating, and analyzing data from multiple sources and platforms to generate insights into best-practices for outreach, recruitment, communication and engagement activities.

- Inventorying and documenting data and metric definitions, data flow processes, etc.

- Exploring current and new data sources and technology, such as Zintellect reporting, Google Analytics, Tableau, and Power BI, to enhance analysis techniques and build solutions that empower analytics.

- Optimizing use of STEM WD resources by testing and identifying effective methods and identifiable patterns of participant experience delivery and impact.

- Researching web activities and data sources to identify opportunities for enhancements.

- Reporting findings and supporting related projects as needed.
- Represents ORISE STEM WD and supports and participates in activities related to outreach, recruiting, and ORISE community events, both in person and virtual, including interacting with potential applicants, participants, alumni, mentors, sponsors, and staff. Serves on teams and committees, and on special projects.
- Identifies, researches, and develops special projects related to communication, engagement, or outreach interests to add value to ORISE STEM WD with presentation to leadership.
Qualifications
Master’s degree or other graduate degree in Data Analysis, Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, Applied Math, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or business/finance, social and behavioral sciences with a quantitative emphasis, or other related degree and 0-2 years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar is preferred.
- Requires an understanding of analytics, research, statistics, data modeling and data management with demonstrated knowledge, interest, and/or familiarity with data visualization tools, and intermediate skills in Microsoft Office with strong proficiency in Excel.
- Interest in marketing, business, student affairs, or science research is preferred.
- Strong skills in written, verbal and interpersonal communications, multi-tasking, strategic and critical thinking, and an ability to think analytically and work productively in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment.
*The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
