Department Profile

The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm’s books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley’s various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley’s various businesses and its senior management team.

The Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial and regulatory reporting for the Firm. FCG prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators. For internal reporting FCG, along with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA), summarizes, plans and forecasts the organization’s financial position, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future revenues, expenses and earnings. FCG is comprised of Business Unit Controllers, Infrastructure Controllers, Accounting, Regulatory and Reporting groups, and Valuation Review.

Description

As part of the Wealth Management Controllers organization, individual will be responsible for providing technical and operational accounting support to the businesses.

Qualifications:

You will:

> Apply U.S. GAAP to complex transactions and strategic initiatives to identify and resolve accounting issues for internal stakeholders.

> Advise across a scope of work that includes new products and services, mergers and acquisitions, legal entity restructurings, and entity under common control transactions.

> Liaise with global accounting policy group and business partners to ensure proper adherence to firm policies.

> Review financial statements and disclosures for appropriateness under U.S. GAAP (10-K, 10-Q, and stand-alone reports).

> Point of contact with internal and external auditors and other outside vendors.

> Various ad hoc finance initiatives.

You Have:

> 4-7 years of relevant experience.

> Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or equivalent), CPA required.

> Strong analytical skills and technical U.S. GAAP knowledge.

> Proven ability to execute special projects and strategic initiatives; manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines.

> Ability to develop and maintain consultative relationships with various constituents at all levels.

> Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.

> Outstanding attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $85,000 and $135,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
