Description

As the Youth Development Lead you will coordinate functions to provide the very highest quality of programming and customer service for participants, maintain health and safety standards to improve the quality of current programs, and increase participation in Youth Development components of the YWCA Central Massachusetts. Program hours vary and as such schedules will vary between the school year and summer.

Schedule:

  • Youth Connect Summer (July and August): Monday through Friday 2:00PM to 9:30PM.
  • Girls Choice Program and Family Fun Fridays – School Year: Flexible hours; must be available Fridays 5:00PM to 8:00PM and Saturdays 8:00AM to 1:00PM.

Programs:

  • Girls CHOICE is a long-term mentoring program which pairs professional women with at-risk students beginning in 7th grade until 12th grade.
  • Family Fun Fridays is a free program offered on Friday evenings for families. Activities are available for families to spend quality time together.
  • YouthConnect provides neighborhood-based recreational, educational, and cultural activities to isolated and underserved youth ages 11-15 in Worcester during the summer months.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Youth Connect – Summer

  • Plan and implement Youth Development programming, including direct program service and hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling of part-time seasonal summer staff for YouthConnect.
  • Oversee the YWCA component of the summer YouthConnect program during the summer months.
  • Maintain accurate records of program participants using ETO and other methods as needed, including tracking attendance, demographics and outcomes as required.
  • Assist in managing annual youth development budget. Maintain records and submit financial reports for programs as required.
  • Network with, cultivate, and maintain connections throughout the business, health, and non-profit community to build linkages, develop programs, and increase participation.
  • Recruit youth for Summer YouthConnect as needed.
  • Attend meetings and perform other duties as requested.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Girls Choice and Family Fun Fridays – school year

  • Assist in Girls Choice Program during school year – September through June.
  • Provide case management services as needed.
  • Facilitate parent/mentee guidance meetings as needed to maintain compliance with Girls CHOICE rules and procedures.
  • Create and maintain individual files for intake and assessment.
  • Be an active liaison with Worcester Public Schools by working closely with guidance counselors, school adjustment counselors etc.
  • Coordinate college tours with campuses in New England and assist in transporting girls on college tours.
  • Assist with running Family Fun Fridays by having activities planned for families to participate in on Friday nights.
  • Purchase food and program supplies.
  • Collect data, create spreadsheets, and conduct pre/post surveys of all participants.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in health, Physical Education, Psychology or recreation preferred or equivalent experiences in youth development.
  • Ability to adjust hours worked based on scheduled programs. Must be available to work 2:00PM to 9:30PM during the summer months.
  • Completion of Youth Worker Training Institute within 1 year preferred.
  • Experience in program development and supervising staff
  • Ability to relate to people of diverse skill levels and interests.
  • Commitment to providing quality customer service, strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, such as youth and their families and communities of color.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
