This position is based in San Antonio, TX
What you’ll do:
Credit Risk Analyst Interns execute credit/behavioral/financial analytics and monitoring to assess risks and opportunities within defined guidelines and frameworks.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Executes analytical processes to assess risks and opportunities across the Bank’s consumer portfolios.
- Supports team members to deliver bank risk strategy by effectively providing analytical insights to peers and management.
- Begins conducting quantitative analysis utilizing extensive internal and external data sources.
- Executes qualitative analysis to support the team in departmental decision making.
- Researches credit, product, and/or risk proposals and utilizes critical thinking skills to provide feedback in support of strong portfolio performance outcomes.
- Learns to maintain effective risk management frameworks which can identify, measure, or mitigate risk.
- Develops, maintains, and utilizes established reporting to monitor and escalate bank risks.
- May execute financial risk sensitivity analysis, credit and/or financial modeling infrastructure.
- Performs routine tasks under direct supervision and within established procedures and guidelines.
What you need to have:
To qualify, you must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher at a 4-year accredited college or university, and plan to graduate after the final day of the internship. Most of our interns participate the summer between their junior and senior years. Our 2024 internship will start on May 29, 2024 and last through August 09, 2024.
- Graduation date cannot be prior to August 10, 2024
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher at a 4-year accredited university in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative subject areas.
- 0 to 2 years of related experience and accountability for simple to moderately complex tasks and/or projects required.
- Foundational and conceptual knowledge of the function/subject area and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills and abilities towards work products required.
- Foundational level of business knowledge in the areas of the business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required.
- Demonstrated high attention to detail in execution of deliverables and ability to identify issues and recommend solutions to solve problems.
What sets you apart:
- 0 to 2 years related quantitative analysis experience in a subject area relevant to risk management to include statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics or other quantitative field strong problem-solving abilities and research skills.
- Experience with SQL, SAS, R, Python, or other analytical / risk tools.
- Graduation date between August 10, 2024, and July 2025

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the hourly range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual hourly rate for this role may vary by location. The range for this position is: $22 – $30.
Interns will receive an intern stipend to assist with expenses.
