This position serves as a Production Control Technician performing system control functions to ensure the timely and accurate processing of production job schedules for the Department of Employment Security (DES). Job Responsibilities
35% Under general supervision, serves as a Production Control Technician for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) / Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES):
- Performs system control functions to ensure the timely and accurate processing of production job schedules.
- Reviews master production schedule and prepares processing schedules.
- Updates and inserts necessary data and files to prepare the production Job Control Language (JCL) for specific jobs to be executed.
- Utilizes online and database technologies via Time Sharing Option/System Productivity Facility (TSO/SPF) and CA-Scheduler workload automation software.
35% Submits production jobs incompliance with established procedures:
- Review JCL listings via Houston Automatic Spooling Priority (HASPS) to determine successful completion according to specific instructions.
- Files JCL microfiche and listings.
20% Performs elementary diagnostic problem-solving functions to resolve incomplete processing and reports problems to section leadership:
- Corrects job control and other application command statement to correct run errors
5% Consults and interacts with various Support Services sections to disperse output reports
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
2. Requires one (1) year of related data processing experience.
Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
1. One (1) year of experience performing system control functions to ensure the timely and accurate processing of production job schedules.
2. One (1) year of experience submitting production jobs incompliance with established procedures.
3. One (1) year of experience performing elementary diagnostic problem-solving functions to resolve incomplete processing.
4. Working knowledge of job control language (JCL) set up and modification.
5. Working knowledge of TSO/SPF and CA-Scheduler workload automation software.
6. Working knowledge of information processing system operation principles.
7. Ability to identify and analyze system errors and take corrective action to resolve.
8. Developed verbal and written communication skills to accurately provide information to others.
9. Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships will all levels of staff.
