Position summary: The Grid Operations Leadership oversees the operations of the integrated PG&E transmission system to ensure the grid is operated in a safe, reliable and compliant manner while minimizing costs to customers and the company. The incumbents lead teams responsible for the coordination and communication of planned or forced equipment outages, system status, unusual events, including the coordination of system restoration following major disturbances. Grid Operations Leadership develop and implement work practices that allow for efficient use of resources and close communications and coordination with other departments to meet PG&E safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction goals. The Vacaville Grid Control Center (VGCC) and the Rocklin Grid Control Center (RGCC) monitor the day-to-day real-time operations of the PG&E transmission system and work closely with California Independent System Operator (CAISO) to maintain system reliability including monitoring voltages, coordinating switching actions, preparing for and responding to emergency system events. Leaders create a safety culture for an incident-free work environment and encourage employees to take responsibility for their safety and that of co-workers.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary $136,000.00
- Mid Base Salary $184,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary $232,000.00
- Communicates regularly and partners with construction departments, distribution centers, engineering, system protection, and planning support, in addition to transmission customers and other agencies.
- Deal with the routine or straight forward customer issues and contributes to customer satisfaction.
- Develops and implements actions that improve and support system reliability and emergency response expectations.
- Ensures that technical and mandatory training/certification is completed and properly documented and employees are competent to perform their job.
- Fosters relationships and communication with industry leaders, including IBEW, other utilities and agencies.
- Manages and monitors spending to stay within budget.
- May be responsible for the safe and efficient operations and staffing of GCC.
- May be responsible for one of the six jurisdictions of transmission control centers contained in the VGCC for the operation of the electric transmission system.
- Operates the grid transmission system in a reliable manner and provides emergency response for all transmission events.
- Provides clearance coordination for the transmission system, including coordination with System Dispatch and coordination on a short-term and long-term basis for all electric transmission.
- Supervises 4 – 20 direct report, dispatchers or system operators.
- Supervises staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.
Qualifications
Minimum:
• High School or GED
• 4 years of related experience with either 2 or more years of experience in electric operations (or an equivalent environment) or 2 or more years of supervisory experience in any environment.
Desired:
* NERC Certification at the Reliability Coordinator level
• Completed System Operator Training
• Completed WECC training sessions
• Experience with union-represented employees
• Budget experience
• Leadership skills: ability to motivate, direct, and engage employees.
• Good interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of benchmarking practices and techniques
• Knowledge of safe work practices and creates a safe work environment
