Position Summary: This position is responsible for the development and ownership of multi-family affordable and supportive housing projects for formerly homeless, special needs, and extremely low-income households in the San Francisco Bay Area. Position will be based in San Leandro, with potential flexibility for remote work for up to 4 days a week.

How You Make An Impact:

  • Develop and/or periodically review and update policies and procedures for various housing development related processes including how housing development relates to finance, property management, asset management, compliance, services and communications.
  • Train Housing Development team on relevant components of the housing development process.
  • Work collaboratively with finance, property management, asset management, compliance, services and communication teams to ensure that processes are followed, that feedback is incorporated, and that communication between teams is consistent and clear.
  • Supervise a team of 1 to 3 project assistants, associate project managers, project managers while providing higher level project management oversight to 2-3 Abode Housing Development projects.
  • Analyze new housing development project sites and Requests for Proposals for feasibility, risk and competitiveness and then recommend which projects to pursue to Chief Real Estate Officer and Housing Development Committee. Lead team on preparing proposals for RFPs that are financially feasible and meet organizational mission.
  • Create and oversee the creation of financial proformas for new projects including capital sources and uses for total development costs, operating income and expenses, and potential debt and equity.
  • Monitor and report progress summary of development activities to Chief Real Estate Officer for projects overseen by this position.
  • Support community engagement events to solicit community input on projects.
  • Track potential external development impacts such as legislation, changes in funding requirements, cost escalation, report to management on potential advocacy efforts, and draft advocacy documents and/or directly advocate for advantageous changes. Actively participate in housing advocacy and policy groups to advocate for Abode Housing Development’s interests in the affordable housing industry
  • Other duties as assigned.

How You Meet Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, Finance, Urban Studies, Planning, Architecture or related field.
  • Positive track record in developing projects, processes, and relationships to further the development of affordable and supportive housing
  • Minimum 10 years experience in housing development related work, at least 5 years of which were direct affordable housing development project management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, integrity, respect for confidentiality, sound judgment and decision-making skills. High degree of emotional intelligence, cultural humility, with a proven track record to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong financial pro forma skills and experience in financial feasibility, design, construction, land use, and housing policies. High degree of independence, initiative, responsibility, accountability as well as capability in a team environment. Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks within multiple projects.
  • Computer proficiency in a windows environment using MS Office.
  • Working understanding of fair housing laws, tenant laws, and relocation laws.
  • Working understanding of accounting principles and prevailing wage requirements.
  • Reliable transportation, current and valid CA Driver’s License and Insurance required.
