Zoo Vehicle Machinery Operator

Full-time, Hourly
Hourly Range: $22.86 – $25.54/hr

Job Summary
The Zoo Vehicle Machinery Operatoroperates all zoo vehicles needed to maintain zoo buildings and grounds. The Zoo Vehicle Machinery Operator will haul a variety of items from animals to food and plants, erect, maintain, and repair fences, pavement signs, as well as exhibits. The Zoo Vehicle Machinery Operatorwill also lead seasonal staff daily and help train as well as keep staff on track. This position is the next step of the career ladder after the full-time Grounds Worker position. The Zoo Vehicle Machinery Operatorshould also know how to and regularly complete everything a grounds worker does.
Job Responsibilities
- Operations – Removal of animal waste and leaf waste, sewer and moat cleaning, street and parking lot sweeping, delivery of animal food and bedding, and the cleaning of products, snow plowing, transportation of animals and remains of animals, transportation and removal of trash, and browse and use trailers.
- Lead Worker – Coordinate, lead, and organize seasonal workers to complete assigned tasks. Check emails and answer phone and radio calls to efficiently coordinate seasonal staff. Keep staff performing at a high level.
- Maintenance – Maintain and service large equipment, repair small engines and equipment, paint, weld, haul and install large plant material, perform soil and turf preparation, repair and set up props in the animal yards and exhibits.
- Labor – Trench, dig, rake, sweep, vacuum, pressure wash, mow grass, perform leaf blow, construct and repair roadways, repair manholes, cut, spray, erect, build, pull, and hammer, and all other jobs that may be assigned.
- Ability to properly and safely operate equipment inclusive of sweepers, skid loaders, front end loaders, Vac-all, forklifts, attachments, chain saws, pruners, wood chippers, radios, shovels, and computers.
- Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift up to 75 lbs.
Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences
- Current residency within the State of Wisconsin required
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
- One (1) year or more work experience in operating equipment and machinery required
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no air brake restriction required
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred
- WDATCP Category 3.0 (Turf & Landscape) pesticide certification preferred
Note: This Original Examination is open to current residents of the state of Wisconsin.
