The Department of Social Services is seeking a reliable, motivated, and detail-oriented manager in the department’s Fiscal Division.

The Social Services Finance Manager is responsible for monitoring and developing budgets, maximizing outside funding and revenues, and consolidating multiple fund centers into a high-level summary. The Finance Manager will have oversight to the grants team and federal revenue reporting functions. This position supervises accountant-level staff and carries out other projects as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have exceptional analytical, time management and writing skills, as well as the ability to work in a collaborative manner with colleagues. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong finance background, preferably governmental finance, with a strong background in federal loans/grants, auditing, and cost accounting. Successful candidates should also possess strong work ethic, a high level of personal accountability and track record of effectively managing a team or program.

Successful candidates will have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), strong Microsoft Excel skills, the ability to prepare, analyze and monitor budgets and be familiar with year-end financial reporting. Strong organizational and communication skills are required, as is the ability to work well with strict deadlines. Candidates should be skilled in coaching and training to share knowledge throughout the unit. Experience with SAP enterprise financial systems is also preferred.

Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, accounting or a closely related field. (Job-related, professional-level experience may substitute for the required education, on a year-for-year basis.) In addition, three years of increasingly responsible professional-level experience involving work with a variety of administrative operations. One year of the required experience must have been in a supervisory position.

Pension Benefit and Employee Contribution Rates:
The County’s pension is a defined benefit plan that provides a guaranteed monthly pension payment for life based on your time in service, wages, and other factors. The County is the primary contributor to the pension fund, but the health of the pension fund also depends on mandatory employee contributions. Employees are required to pay a percentage of their base pay towards the pension fund, ranging from 5% to 19%. This amount is deducted from your paycheck pre-tax every pay period.
