Job Duties
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) supports an inclusive and diverse employee community. We are currently seeking a composed and attentive individual to join our Security Services Department as Security Console Supervisor. The Security Console Supervisor provides the Security Console services to facilitate communication between internal departments, contractors, visitors and Security Services resources; and monitor premises for activities that may require a security response. Additionally, they provide guidance and coordination to ensure cooperative completion of duties of all Security Console Associates.
This is a VMFA internal position only.
Additional duties include:
• Assures Associates are consistently informed of any Console policy or procedural changes
• Stays abreast of and relays information about VMFA exhibitions and security surveillance equipment.
• Seeks and documents feedback and suggestions from Console Associates relative to clean, efficient operation.
• Conducts training on Console software and equipment.
• Reviews and evaluates logs and forms completed by Console Associates.
• Works cooperatively with Security Services management on issues involving Console procedures.
• Coordinates any regular training necessary to keep Console running effectively.
• Maintains Console schedule.
• Responds immediately to phone or radio requests for assistance from various departments.
• Applies steady, mature judgement during highly stressful situations in order to determine how to proceed, what resources to commit or other related decisions.
• Maintains working knowledge of all aspects of software necessary to perform duties.
• Stocks and produces forms, department calendars and/or paper maps necessary to effective operations.
• Conducts research and compiles information as necessary or when directed for emergency or high priority incidents
• Reviews departmental notifications about special events/contractor arrangements.
• Complies with all instructions, assignments and orders given to them by their Supervisor, the Watch Commander, the Manager of Security Services, the Assistant Director and Director of Security Services.
• Maintains understanding of all VMFA and departmental policies by attending all mandatory training.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of customer service principles, practices and methods. Some knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the responsibilities and professional conduct of unarmed security officers. Knowledge of principles, practices and methods of loss prevention programs.
Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written. Ability to articulate specific security information and prepare reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to quickly learn and use various computer applications. Leadership qualities/experience to ensure cooperation and successful achievement of Security Console Associates in the department.
This role requires mental alertness and a keen attention to details.
Ability to use both hands and arms in reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks.
Ability to use eyes to observe, read, interact with public and staff, and view security monitors including hand and eye coordination.
Ability to remain constantly alert and attentive to details for assigned duties.
Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information.
Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written.
Ability to articulate specific security information and prepare reports.
Ability to apply mature judgments that contribute to agency goals.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Additional Considerations
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the responsibilities and professional conduct of unarmed and armed security officers.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of loss prevention programs.
Prior experience in the security industry, law enforcement, military, or security experience in a cultural institution.
Prior public safety dispatcher experience.
Current registration from the Department of Criminal Justice Services.
