Some of the many programs and services offered are career counseling, skills training, education and literacy programs, employment services, and more.
Position Overview
MERS Goodwill is adding Service Specialists to our team. Service Specialists are the core of our mission. Changing lives through the power of work, serving individuals who are receiving Temporary Assistance or SNAP benefits, and youth in foster care.
Essential/Primary Functions
- Provides a wide range of individualized case management services to TA (Temporary Assistance) recipients, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients, and older youth who are/have been in foster care, creating and working on an individualized plan toward self-sufficiency.
- Conducts comprehensive initial intake and orientation to available services.
- Maintains contact with participants a minimum of once/month, per State contract requirements.
- Reads and implements state and local policy.
- Completes agency documentation and data entry in a timely manner.
- Sends required letters and correspondence.
- Assesses participants for appropriate levels of service (including waivers).
- Place consumers in appropriate activities including community services.
- Provides/arranges for supportive services.
- Establishes professional relationships, develops and maintains knowledge of community resources. Makes referrals, advocates, and follow-up.
- Collects and processes attendance logs, requests sanctions, obtains needed verification.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or experience in Social Service field required.
- Requires ability to observe and work well with program participants; possess excellent written/verbal communication skills.
- Must possess driver’s license, vehicle, insurance, and ability/willingness to travel occasionally for home visits and other community activity to provide services.
- Background check with the Family Care Safety Registry required.
- Preferred to be located in the MERS Goodwill Columbia Career Center, or from another location in MWA Region 5.
