GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs responsible semiskilled work in a variety of grounds maintenance assignments; frequently operates specialized and other equipment in connection with the tasks to which assigned; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision. Supervision may be exercised over unskilled workers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
?Mowing and planting grass and grounds maintenance activities; operating, maintaining and repairing equipment.
? Maintains City park areas and equipment.
? Mows grass, edges, rakes leaves, and removes trees.
? Uses chemicals and fertilizer in grounds maintenance activities.
? Maintains mowers, tractors and equipment.
? Sows grass; aerates soil; trims hedges; removes fallen tree limbs.
? Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools; some knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of equipment used in grounds maintenance; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to perform labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and some experience as a semiskilled worker in grounds maintenance; some experience in the operation of motorized equipment.
