Job Description:
The University of Florida Area Health Education Program (AHEC) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Health Education Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the Tobacco Free Florida cessation program by providing public outreach, facilitating tobacco cessation classes, assisting with program data, offering administrative support, and actively participating in tobacco health education initiatives. The position will work at the UF AHEC Office located at UF’s East Campus on Waldo Road. Funding for this position is from Tobacco Settlement Dollars from the Florida Department of Health, which specifies that supported employees must not be tobacco users.
More About This Role
Serves as a public contact for the office and the tobacco program by answering inquiries about Tobacco Free Florida cessation options, communicating information about AHEC tobacco cessation services, and answering questions within established guidelines. Assists with answering the dedicated tobacco cessation phone line, making reminder and follow-up calls to participants, and initiating calls to those referred by providers.
Assists the Health Educator by serving as a backup facilitator for tobacco cessation classes at UF Health clinical facilities and virtual classes. Helps with the data collection and management, including NRT inventory and distribution, attendance, registration forms, and other program data into the Tobacco Free Florida AHEC Cessation Tracking (TFFACT) system. Assists with the distribution of post-course Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
Provides general clerical and administrative support to tobacco team members including, but not limited to, preparing mailings, routine documents, correspondence, spreadsheets and reports; running errands for the department including going to campus to pick up mail and periodic delivery of tobacco cessation materials to UF clinics and departments; and assisting with meetings and special events
Serving as support on the Tobacco-Free Task Force and participating in various health fairs and events to present tobacco health education, as well as promoting the tobacco control program and tobacco-free campus.

Expected Salary:
$17.00 to $19.50 per hour
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Florida driver’s license and to personal vehicle. The employee will use their own vehicle to complete job duties. Compensation for mileage at the state rate will be given for personal vehicle usage.
- Must not be a tobacco user, including vaping, as required by AHEC’s state tobacco contract with the Florida Department of Health.

Ideal candidate will possess:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization (i.e. Health Education and Behaviors, Public Health)
- Excellent communication and computer skills
- Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Experience in applicable health field and interest in tobacco prevention and cessation
- Experience with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
