The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem solving environment. This position serves as a night shift Support Services Data Processing Lead coordinating functions of a large, complex information processing system operations program for DoIT/DES. In the position you will identify and resolve operating issues and ensures functional accuracy for production processing. Job Responsibilities

35% Under direction, serves as a night shift Support Services Data Processing Lead for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES):

  • Coordinates functions of a large, complex information processing system operations program
  • Assists supervisor in maintaining shift production priorities for computer operations
  • Identifies and resolves operating issues and ensures functional accuracy for production processing
  • Determines proper operating procedures when confronted with machine and/or production halts and errors
  • Compiles information and conducts studies to provide recommendations to the Night Shift Supervisor concerning personnel, equipment, down-time and procedural changes
  • Prepares and composes shift reports and other various logs for monitoring and controlling the system
  • Collaborates with the Production Support Sub section and the day shift computer operator team to provide a continual 24-hour operation
  • Reviews and analyzes computer printouts and punch-outs to ensure conformance set standards
  • Confers with users concerning the development of new standards and procedures

20% Serves as designated lead worker:

  • Assigns and reviews work
  • Provides guidance and training to assigned staff
  • Advises immediate supervisor regarding performance of staff

15% Sets console control and adjusts peripheral machines:

  • Manually operates the console keyboard and controls system input and output devices.
  • Monitors the CA Scheduler responding to any operator intervention requests.
  • Confers with DoIT Command Center on system requirements for links, nodes, lines, and other telecommunication access methods.
  • Submits jobs through the Time-Sharing Option (TSO) device

15% Performs production control functions:

  • Provides interface between input/output and the user being serviced
  • Takes remedial action and notifies user of problematic situations
  • Operates Micro Image Processor, Ekta Fiche Duplicator and paper handling machines

5% Assists with ordering, delivering, placement, and relocation of all computer-related supplies:

  • Cleans printers, card readers, and tape drives to prevent build-up of paper, dust, and foreign matter harmful to operation.

5% Keeps abreast of new developments in the data processing field:

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on products, vendors, techniques and procedures
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations

5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  2. Requires four (4) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Specialist level.

OR

  1. Requires two (2) years of college coursework
  2. Requires three (3) years of previous related experience.

Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  1. Three (3) years of experience coordinating functions of a large, complex information processing system operations program
  2. Three (3) years of experience leading or supervising a data processing team
  3. Three (3) years of experience in job control language set up and correction.
  4. Three (3) years of experience with information system job submission, operation monitoring and computer production procedures
  5. Ability to write directives or instructions in a complete and concise manner.
  6. Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships
  7. Ability to coordinate multiple components of a complex information processor system.
  8. Ability to provide leadership, guidance, instruction, and training to lower-level staff.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to travel.
  2. Requires ability to pass a position specific, agency required background check.
  3. Requires ability to work outside of normal business hours to meet deadlines.
  4. Requires ability to use agency-supplied equipment (cell phone, laptop, etc.).
  5. Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  6. This position is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifing or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
