College Intern – Law Student (Summer 2024)

Job Brief

The Law Student Intern position will support the Environmental, Land, and Water Resources sections of Law Services in researching issues related to SRP’s core business of the care, operation, and maintenance of a U.S. owned federal reclamation project, delivering water to SRP’s shareholders within its reservoir district, and providing power to customers within its service territory.

Job Responsibilities

Position will support attorneys in the SRP Legal Department, with an emphasis on research and analysis, legal writing and the preparation of various agreements related to SRP’s role as a leading provider of electric power and water to the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Candidates should have an interest in researching legal and policy issues related to subjects affecting the electric and water utility industries such as natural resources, environmental issues, power generation, corporate governance, land and water rights.

Candidates should also have a willingness to work with others, leverage expertise acquired in law school and professionally, and be personable with strong oral and written communication skills as well. Candidates should be familiar with different IT applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel and Outlook.

To be eligible for the Intern position, students must be enrolled in their second year of full-time study at an ABA-accredited law school. This position is for a summer legal internship.

Education

College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

Experience

  • Candidates should have an interest in developing skills related to researching legal and policy issues, critically thinking through solutions, and presenting such solutions in oral and written communications to support SRP’s core business functions.
  • Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in natural resources law including water, land, and environmental law, as well as an interest in corporate law and governance.
  • Candidates should also demonstrate a strong desire to prioritize the success of the team over their personal goals, a willingness to work with others, leverage expertise learned in school and professionally, and be personable with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates should have skills or adapt well in working with different IT applications such as MS Office 365, SharePoint, and Outlook.

Additional Information

Preferred candidate currently studying for a law degree and College level coursework from an ABA accredited law school will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

  • This is a paid opportunity for a student working a minimum of 15 hours per week. However, work hours and schedules may fluctuate based on departmental needs.
  • Applicant must be enrolled and attending a minimum of six (6) college credits per semester (100 or higher level courses).
  • Pay rate is $18.00 per hour for an undergraduate intern and $20.00 per hour for a graduate intern.
  • SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although part-time teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
