General Description
The Orange County Department of Social Services has an opening for a Facilities Environment Technician II. Under the limited supervision of the Administrative Officer II an employee of this class is primarily responsible for performing a variety of scheduled custodial services to maintain cleanliness of DSS facilities.
An employee in this position is responsible for collecting and disposing of refuse, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning restrooms and replenishing soap, toilet paper and towels. Does related work as required.
* This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Fitness for Duty Assessment required. Background Check required.
Examples of Essential Functions

Cleans and sanitizes restrooms (i.e. fixtures, mirrors and other surfaces) and water fountains; replenishes soap and paper products;
Cleans, dusts and polishes surface areas (i.e. offices, break rooms, hallways, stairways and conference rooms) including, but not limited to, surface tops, walls, woodwork, windows, blinds and vents; empties trash cans; sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors;
Spot cleans carpeting, as needed; shampoos all carpeting twice per year;
Washes DSS vehicle fleet; transports to motor pool for servicing, as needed;
Assembles rooms for meetings and events (i.e. moving tables and chairs);
Installs soap, toilet paper and towel dispensers and replaces toilet seats as needed;
Salts sidewalks and removes snow, as needed;
Notifies accounting when cleaning supplies are needed;
Maintains MSDS books and updates as needed;
Provides training and guidance to new Facility Maintenance staff;
Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations;
May perform other incidental tasks, as needed.
Full Performance of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of County safety policies and procedures;
Knowledge of department policies and procedures;
Knowledge of the safe and effective use of various cleaning chemicals;
Ability to establish and maintain working professional relationships with coworkers and County employees;
Skill with proper training in operating a variety of cleaning devices, such as a vacuum cleaner, floor care equipment, mop, and broom;
Skill in completing work order documentation of work performed;
Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations with one (1) year of experience in cleaning office buildings.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position may be required to serve in shelters in time of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends. The duties assigned during this time may vary from your regularly assigned duties. Assigned duties will be at the discretion of the Social Services Director.

Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to perform the primary/essential functions called for by the position.
