Position Summary
Supervise, oversee, plan, and coordinate the operations and activities of assigned aquatics and recreational programs; assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for scheduling, monitoring and coordinating aquatics and recreational services, activities, programs and special events; participate in the selection training, and supervision of aquatics and recreation personnel; ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; implement program goals and objectives; monitor the operation and maintenance of an assigned pool; and perform the more technical and complex administrative tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation; and

Five (5) years of aquatics and/or recreation program coordination experience; and

To include one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Pre-employment physical, TB test and Drug Screen
Possession of a valid C.P.R./AED for the Professional Rescuer or lifeguards.
Possession of a valid First Aid certificate.
Possession of a valid Lifeguard certificate.
Possession of a valid Lifeguard Instructor certificate.
Possession of a valid Pool Operators License within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Operations, services and activities of aquatics and recreation services programs
  • Principles and practices of aquatics and recreation program development and implementation
  • Principles and practices of pool operation and maintenance including proper water chemistry levels
  • Principles and procedures of water safety, first aid, C.P.R. and AED
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • Proper functions, rules and regulations pertaining to various swimming and league sports
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
  • Modern and complex principles and practices of swimming and league sports play
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
  • Event planning, principles of marketing and program promotion

  • Organize and direct activities and services relative to assigned program area including adult or youth swimming, little league sports activities, tennis programs or extracurricular activities
  • Oversee and coordinate a variety of swimming and sports programs and leagues
  • Ensure proper officiating at aquatics and recreational sport events
  • Coordinate tennis league program activities
  • Plan for and coordinate swimming, soccer, football and tennis programs
  • Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
  • Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing aquatics and recreation services
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of an assigned pool
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public
