Job Description

This position requires applicants to pass a pre-employment exam. We have partnered with Lower Columbia College (LCC) in Longview, WA, to administer our exams. Applicants must take the ACT work keys exam no later than September 26, 2023.***To register for a testing time go to or call the Testing Center directly at 360-442-2353. Select City of Longview Employment Testing and select the City of Longview Clerical Exam. The exam cost is $90.00. Applicants will need a Level 4 or higher in each category to be considered. Test scores are good for 5 years.

Position Information:
Business Licensing/B&O Taxes – Specific duties include assisting customers with on-line business license registrations; issuing licenses; processing B&O Tax returns and receipting taxes; entering data into applicable systems; and answering a variety of questions related to business licensing and B&O Taxes.
Customer Service – Specific duties could include: assisting customers with account set-ups and close-outs; verifying customer information; entering data into applicable systems; and answering a variety of questions related to utility service.
Cashiering – Specific duties could include: accepting and processing over-the-counter payments; processing revenue transactions; and entering and verifying daily deposits.
Mailroom Services – Specific duties could include picking up, distributing and processing incoming and outgoing mail.
The Fiscal/Utility Support Assistant is distinguished from the Fiscal/Utility Support Technician in that the former does not perform duties requiring a technical knowledge of the Division.
Essential Job Duties
- Performs a variety of clerical support activities in support of division operations, which includes: filing; processing mailings; answering phones; maintaining/updating records; processing and collecting payments; and/or, performing other related activities.
- Prepares, processes, tracks, and verifies a variety of reports, vouchers, deposits, petty cash, and/or other related documents.
- Provides customer service through basic troubleshooting of routine questions and issues; assists customers and employees with requests for information over the phone and in person; researches and resolves problems with accounts/taxes/licenses and/or other related issues.
- Posts financial information into applicable financial system.
- Computes and collects fees and money from customers; issues receipts to customers; sets up/maintains new accounts; submits documentation to appropriate individuals.
- Pick up, process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail daily.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; and at least 1 year of general clerical, customer service, or office support experience. Associate Degree Preferred.
