Position Summary & Scope
The Skate School Instructor II is responsible for teaching the basic fundamentals of skating using ISI guidelines. This part-time position will act as a lead instructor in the testing and advancement of Skate School program participants and shows leadership skills towards other Instructors.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Skate School Director. The Skate School Instructor II position has continuous public contact requiring tact, courtesy and good judgment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Arrive to each shift on time
- Instruct higher level basic skills skating lessons and freestyle classes in accordance to the guidelines of the Learn to Skate program
- Have a general knowledge of ISI policies and procedures
- Acts as lead instructor and shows leadership skills and ability to teach an organized, well-run skating class
- Assists in training less experienced instructors and developing curriculum
- Assist with student control/management on and off the ice
- Establish good public relations with the public, skate school participants and families
- Assist with annual ice show (winter session only), leading/teaching numbers, assisting with coordination and flow during rehearsals and performances
- Continue education through ISI seminars and workshops, and keep up to date with the latest skating rules
- May include other duties as assigned or apparent
Skills & Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Participated in group lessons with either a school or established club and passed the level of ISI Freestyle 3 or equivalent
- Holds proper certification and high level coaching certification with 2+ years coaching experience
- Capable of teaching students from Tots- Freestyle levels, according to ISI standards
- Work independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule
- Communicate orally and in writing and to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
