Job Description
Performs intermediate technical and semiskilled work to include difficult clerical work. The Office Specialist serves as the Recreation Specialist and is responsible for helping oversee the successful completion of programs and events. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor.
Some weekend and evening hours will be required with this position. Full Time with benefits.

Position Responsibilities
- Coordinate planning, logistics, and production of County-sponsored and co-sponsored events, festivals, recreational programs and working with other County departments and community organizations.
- Create and facilitate indoor programming and events at Hines Farm Park & Stables.
- Maintain all marketing and promotion for all events/programs on Onslow County’s Parks and Recreation website and social media accounts.
- Assist with youth and adult athletic programs.
- Coordinate and facilitate rentable facility tours at Hines Farm Park and Stables.
- Assist with the creation of contracts for instructors, associations, and other groups, as needed.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with community and school officials to stimulate interest and develop recreation program support.
- Facilitate Holiday, Spring break, and bonus week camps.
- Create and facilitate kids’ night out programs.
- Process program registration and reservations and collect fees.
- Provides various types of support functions to recreation programs and performs other duties as necessary to help contribute to the success of the department’s mission.
- Demonstrate record management and organizational skills. Develop and maintain a volunteer database.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Qualifications
Some knowledge of all phases of community recreation activities and their administration; principles and methods of recreation program planning and development; ability to develop and execute a program of recreation activities; ability to cooperate with and interpret recreational philosophies to county officials, private groups, agencies and the general public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, the general public and associates; ability to communicate complex ideas both orally and in writing.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience relevant to the position. Associates/ Technical degree preferred.
Valid driver’s license.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System
Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.
NC401k
The County contributes 1/2% of employees’ gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee’s deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 2%.
Vacation Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.
Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
Paid Holidays
County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
