Job Summary
Join our team as an Accounts Receivable Coordinator I, playing a crucial role in managing financial transactions for Health & Human Services assistance recipients. Hiring Range: $34,230.00 – $46,610.00 annually (salary to be commensurate with qualifications)
This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.
Assesses fees for families receiving Health & Human Services (H&HS) assistance. Refers unpaid accounts to collections. Determines funding eligibility for various State and Federal programs. Enters Medicaid entitlements in the State system. Deposits and reports monies received and distributed by all El Paso County Departments. Reconciles State and County financial reports. This position is part of the Accounts Receivable Coordinator career progression series, which includes Accounts Receivable Coordinator I, Accounts Receivable Coordinator II, and Accounts Receivable Coordinator III. An employee is eligible to advance to the next position within the series when the employee has met the criteria for advancement as notated within the job description and has received a recommendation from the Hiring Authority.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assesses fees to families receiving Health & Human Services (H&HS) assistance; monitors accounts for payments; interacts with parents and other clients to explain debts and make payment arrangements; refers unpaid debts for collection.
- Determines eligibility for new and ongoing H&HS assistance; monitors new placements and court orders to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Enters State Administrative Adjustment requests for funding changes, applies for payee status on behalf of El Paso County for Supplemental Security Income (551), Social Security Disability and/or Survivor Benefits.
- Initiates, changes, and discontinues Medicaid benefits when appropriate.
- Creates invoices to recover costs for other departments, State and Federal agencies, outside entities, and clients.
- Identifies the types of payments received and credits the proper accounts; processes written receipts for the County financial system to reflect payment to the proper accounts. Identifies and credits accounts in the State financial system for County system receipts generated the previous day. Prepares deposits for the County Treasurer’s Office.
- Researches refunds and enters into the State system; reconciles the State refund reports.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to cross-train and learn all functions contained within the Accounts Receivable Team.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, other County personnel, other agencies, and the public.
- Working knowledge of accounting methods, forms, and techniques; ability to understand accounting records and procedures and apply proper accounting procedures.
- Ability to efficiently plan, schedule, and organize.
- Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Minimum two years full-time accounting experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation and drug screen.
Work Conditions
Duties are primarily performed in an office environment.
