Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking experienced individuals with strong attention to detail and analytical skills for Principal Accountant. The current vacancy is in the Accounting and Budget Development Division.
The Principal Accountant plans, organizes, and supervises the activities of a work unit responsible for an accounting functional area or for providing consulting and fiscal services to various special programs or local educational agencies; performs complex professional accounting work; develops and updates accounting procedures; and participates in accounting system design, development, and implementation.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
- Generally accepted accounting and auditing principles, practices and methods and their application to governmental accounting
- Federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations as they pertain to accounting procedures and systems and records retention
- Processes of business, banking, and/or other financial systems
- Principles of financial administration, including budget development and reporting
- Principles and techniques of organization, administration, and human resources management
- Concepts and applications of automated data processing systems and equipment related to financial systems and accounting operations
- Methods and techniques of financial analysis and research
- Principles and techniques of employee selection, supervision, training, and performance evaluation

Required Education and ExperienceEducation: A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 24 semester or 36 quarter verifiable college coursework units in accounting from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience: Four years of professional accounting experience, including one year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
Additional Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required for some positions.
