Position Overview

The Credit/AR Specialist will be responsible for collection of customer accounts that are past due or have issues to be resolved. This position will promptly follow up and coordinate resolution on any deduction, short pay, disallowed discount, etc.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Run Accounts Receivable Reports and follow up with customers to collect on past due invoices and any other reconciliation issues for overpayment, short payment, tax, discounts, etc. and note the accounts.
  • Obtain credit information and/or references on prospective customers who submit new credit applications.
  • Provide or obtain credit references on customers to other companies.
  • Complete any lien waivers as needed.
  • Assign customers to credit hold status and release from credit hold as needed.
  • Work closely with the Billing Department to help resolve invoice/billing issues.
  • Process NSF checks and work to collect in timely manner.
  • Furnish W9 documentation to customers as needed.
  • Run end of the month aging reports, customer statements, finance charges and balance accounts receivable to the general ledger.
  • Prepare various month end reports and journal entries and provide back up for the Accounts Receivable department.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Ad hoc duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum requirement is high school diploma or equivalent / related work experience a plus

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check before being employed at Callanan Industries, Inc.
  • Strong oral and written communications and problem solving skills.
  • Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must have the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime as necessary

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Strong Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work with management.
  • Ability to analyze issues independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Strong focus on customer service and the ability to build relationships
  • Knowledge and/or previous related experience in a financial accounting environment preferred.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.

  • Standard office environment.
  • Tempo is fast-paced with deadlines.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be moderate.
