Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an initial public offering, we handle projects that help clients at major milestones. We work with corporations, pension funds, financial sponsors, and governments and are team of strong analytical thinkers, who have a passion for producing out-of-the-box ideas
- Financing Group Coverage Banking sits within a dynamic, market-driven environment, our teams work closely with corporate clients, pension funds, financial sponsors and governments to structure and execute some of the largest and most complex financing and risk management solutions across the full product spectrum, including equity, debt and derivatives. To achieve this goal, the Financing Group comprises all Goldman Sachs’ capital markets departments, and operates on close cooperation with other areas of Investment Banking and other divisions within the firm, including Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities and Equities. Teams are organized by product group including Leveraged Finance, Equity Capital Markets, Investment Grade, Structured Finance, Corporate Derivatives, Public Sector & Infrastructure and Emerging Markets.
Team Overview
Financial Institutions Financing Group (“FIG Financing Group”)
Our group structures, markets, and executes fixed income-related financings for financial institutions, as well as advises clients on broader balance sheet management topics, including risk management, regulatory and rating agency developments, liability management, and optimizing for other strategic initiatives.
The group helps clients access varying types of capital, such as senior debt and hybrid products, to help fund their businesses, pursue M&A, and aid other strategic priorities. The team works alongside classic investment banking, investment grade syndicate, other members of the financing group, and sales and trading desks in a wide range of projects.
The FIG Financing Group has a central role in maintaining the firm’s treasury relationships with clients, allowing for a unique mix of client-facing opportunities both with issuers and buy side investors. Often seeing multiple transactions per week, deal flow is ample allowing for a quick ramp up of deal-related experience. The blend of market-related skills as well as fundamental credit analysis and client management offer a unique experience for team members to develop themselves professionally.
The FIG Financing Group is a fast-paced, markets-focused, deal-driven environment where you will multi-task for multiple clients each day. Junior bankers sit directly next to senior bankers in a trading desk environment, resulting in unique participation in critical market judgments and client communications.
Often times, there will be only one junior banker on most projects, leading to more responsibility, autonomy and client contact earlier in your career. Junior bankers are the engine room in the execution process, interacting with a wide variety of internal GS teams and external parties (corporate clients, debt investors, external counsel, rating agencies, etc.).
The FIG Financing Group is organized by sub-sectors, including coverage of North American Banks, Specialty Finance companies, Financial Technology, Asset Management, and Insurance.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities of a Junior Banker:
The role provides exceptional room for junior banker development with the ability to truly own projects and shape outcomes. Among other things, one would be expected to:
- Advise companies on financing in the context of acquisitions, capital return, or ongoing working capital and refinancing needs
- Prepare client materials (including pitches, term sheets, capital structure alternatives, market updates)
- Help manage internal deal processes which include performing business, financial and legal diligence, and educating internal risk and control groups; act as a liaison with other groups within the firm
- Manage authoring and coordinating committee documents for both debt underwriting (bond deals and acquisition financing) and principal lending (relationship loans)
- Participate actively in legal structuring and document review as part of live deal execution
- Provide issuer client coverage by keeping them abreast of market conditions and investor appetite.
- Advise clients on how best to execute their financings.
- Build relationships with both existing and new clients.
- Plan and execute bond transactions including structuring, marketing, relative value debate, book building and pricing
- Gain exposure to a wide variety of products, clients and market environments

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $110000-$125000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
