The Microsoft Strategic Missions and Technology (SMT) engineering team is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to drive development of Azure Infrastructure Access Product capabilities focused on connecting authorized customers to Azure classified cloud regions. You will focus on helping us ensure we have the platform capabilities our customers need to meet their mission objectives securely while leveraging world-class modern technology. In doing so, you enable the success of new and existing customers on Azure Government.

You will design and augment network connectivity capabilities that meet Government security and compliance requirements; work across Azure service teams to develop services, features, and market-specific solutions, and; drive transition of Government edge networking from traditional hardware/vendor-based solutions to cloud-centric software-defined solutions.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- 7+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience with architecture, deployment, and/or operations of Government classified networks.
- Experience working with L2/L3 switching/routing platforms, application networking and network protocols to include BGP, OSPF, VRRP, LACP.

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government clearance.
- Candidates must have an active TS/SCI and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph). This role will require candidates to maintain the TS/SCI (with polygraph) clearance. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- Excellent judgement, decision-making skills, and the ability to work under continual deadline pressure when the situation is ambiguous.
- 11+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- 7+ years of experience with architecture, deployment, and operations of Government classified networks.
- CCNP or higher or equivalent professional certification; CompTIA Security+ certification.
- Applied experience with firewall, network security, or network monitoring solutions, including vendor platforms to include Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower/ASA, and/or Juniper SRX.
- Applied experience with privacy encryption protocols/capabilities to include VPN, IPSec, and TLS.
- Applied experience with cloud or other software-defined networking implementations to include networking authentication, authorization, RBAC, compute, databases.
- Experience with Linux and Windows experiences, with focus on shell commands and scripting.
- Experience in one or more programming languages: C#, C++, Java, Python, Perl.
- Experience in network automation using scripting languages such as Python.
Cloud Network Engineering IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 – $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 – $238,600 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Review and influence ongoing design, architecture, standards, and methods for operating services and systems.
- Collaborate with internal business units and stakeholders and understand the requirements to deliver capabilities efficiently.
- Create feature specifications in coordination with your team.
- Improve transparency and monitorability of services.
- Automate repetitive tasks to reduce implementation time and avoid failure due to human error.
- Support team efforts to identify , prototype, evaluate, and standardize Azure Government onboarding patterns.
- Work closely with Atlanta, Redmond, and Reston-based Azure engineering, operations teams and other internal Microsoft groups to drive capability developments and initial deployments.
- Participate in periodic on-call rotation for network incident support, quickly mitigate impact and restore service availability through a software enabled toolset.
- Evangelize best network engineering practices and process within and across teams.
