General Description of Duties

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
This is manual and semi-skilled work providing clean and well-maintained facilities for use by the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintain Community Centers. Maintains grounds and facilities by picking up litter and inspecting facilities for safety and general repair. Cleans restrooms, showers, and sanitary facilities. Cuts grass as prescribed areas at the height required for optimum turf vigor. Performs minor maintenance to the buildings, as required. Plants trees, shrubs, flowers and sod according to specifications. Prepare and maintain planting areas as required for established period.

Set up Community Centers for events. Set up facilities for special groups. Ensures that equipment is properly removed and stored after used by special groups.

Performs customer service activities. Processes requests from boards and citizens. Establishes contact with citizens requesting information about community centers. Distributes literature to park patrons and posts information at designated facilities. Erects rule signs, safety related signs, and visitor information signs in prudent and required areas.

Performs special projects. Performs minor repairs of structures and improves facilities. Repair, replace, and install safety and security devices as required. Performs minor masonry work to repair facilities. Applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides health to promote plant growth and remove offensive plant materials and/or pests.

Performs equipment maintenance activities. Accounts for assigned power tools, mowers, tractors, and vehicles assigned. Sharpens, fixes, and/or repairs all tools necessary to performs maintenance tasks. Requisitions materials and supplies necessary to complete assigned tasks. Inspects, lubricates, and operates all power tools and equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications.

OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIES
Maintains paperwork, to include timesheets, accident reports and vehicle inspection logs. Maintains daily log books detailing work accomplished, facility inspections, and related information. Complies with all policies and procedures related to purchasing cards. Maintains receipts and other information as required.

Work is completed based on standard practices associated with the maintenance of Community Centers.

Contact is made with internal staff and the public.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED
Vehicles, chainsaws, vibropackers, blowers, weed eaters, mowers, pavement saws, jackhammers, and landscaping hand and power tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed outdoors. Work environmental factors include exposure to inclement weather conditions, dirt, odors, et cetera and exposure to insects and animals. Work requires the following physical demands: standing, walking, lifting in excess of 50 pounds; climbing, crawling, et cetera.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of building maintenance, park maintenance, and ground maintenance. Knowledge of masonry. Ability to operate a large vehicle. Knowledge of reading, writing, and arithmetic. Skilled with hand tools. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through oral and written communication. Ability to operate power tools. Ability to lift heavy objects over 50 pounds. Ability to understand technical specifications, manuals, and drawings. Skilled in customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a high school diploma or an equivalent and six months of related work experience.

Necessary Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid State of Florida Class “E” operator’s license and a Class “A” CDL License, and have a favorable driving record.

Must be able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

A Certification License of Limited Chemical Application – Turf & Ornamental is preferred.

All Leon County employees (regular full-time and part-time, OPS, and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared Local State of Emergency (DLSOE). Participation is considered a condition of employment.

Selection Guidelines:

FLSA STATUS: Position is Non-exempt. Analysis: This is blue collar work maintaining the grounds and facilities at the Community Centers in the County.
