This is a skilled technical level Tradesworker Senior position performing pest control services to county-owned and leased buildings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties are performed countywide and include but are not limited to storing, transporting, disposing of and applying pesticides according to Florida Statute 482 from the Dept of Agriculture, Bureau of Entomology. These pesticides are applied to gain insect and rodent control to satisfy a monthly preventative maintenance and corrective work order schedule in all County owned and leased buildings. In addition to this, the applicant must be able to coordinate all Bee, Termite and Live Animal problems with appropriate licensed vendors that do such work. Further duties might involve hammering, drilling, sawing, driving, keeping pest control equipment in good operating condition, using a ladder or riding in a bucket truck to reach issues that are above normal heights, crawling in attics and under buildings and using a computer for work orders and correspondence.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years of work experience as a pest control technician with a licensed pest control company.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based NCIC background check and must be able to obtain a security clearance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and will be required to undergo a “fingerprint-based” criminal background check and must be able to obtain security clearance from the State’s Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.
Preferred Requirements:
- Three years of work experience as a pest control technician with a licensed pest control company.
- Be able to obtain the State GHP and Termite certifications relating to the trade.
Supplemental Information
- The workdays and hours for this position are Tuesday through Friday 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Lift at least 60 pounds and use a 25-pound backpack sprayer, drag and recoil 250 feet of hose from truck mounted sprayer, reach, stoop, squat, climb ladders to above normal heights, work in small spaces in extreme temperatures, and pass a respirator physical and become respirator certified.
- Pass pest control certifications as required.
- Operate small machinery and/or hand tools used in the pest control trade.
- Must be able to be flexible with schedule as some pest control/termite control jobs may occur after normal business hours.
- Have the ability to read blueprints and sketches.
- Knowledge of computers for correspondence and work order retrieval.
- As the duties performed in this position are essential, the incumbent will be expected to report to work before, during, and after an emergency unless excused by management.
