The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory’s (NNL) Security Engineering team at the Naval Reactors Facility has an immediate opening for an experienced engineer. The newest team member will work on the implementation, improvement, and maintenance of critical security systems. These systems include, but are not limited to, various camera monitoring technologies, intrusion detection and alarms, access control, and biometric verification. Duties of the engineer require developing, deploying, and life cycle support of security solutions for the Naval Reactors Facility. You will have the opportunity to function as part of a multi-discipline, multi-site engineering team in both leading and supporting roles for multiple projects. Performing engineering evaluations and analyses, troubleshooting assessments and potential repairs, and make engineering decisions for critical security systems is a key component of this role.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Being the cognizant engineer/system expert for assigned security systems.
  • Occasionally performing “hands-on” work with security systems.
  • Providing proactive leadership to address legacy systems, develop process improvements, and maintain historical knowledge.
  • Applying system knowledge to solve problems.
  • Work planning to accomplish major projects.
  • Communicating, as necessary, to ensure customer and management understanding of project status.
  • Researching and applying new security technologies.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience or;
  • MS degree in engineering or Master’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience

  • Experience developing and implementing security systems

Pay Range

$93,400 – $140,000 annually

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
