Responsibilities

The Senior Manager – Gas Operations – NY will support the New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) Gas Operations teams in the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of natural gas service. This position will be responsible for supporting and managing the tactical execution of the teams’ objectives of regulatory compliance, operational excellence, business process improvement, IT initiatives, along with cross-company collaboration and implementation of best practices. The successful candidate will be directly responsible for leading the teams supporting the RG&E Maps Room, RG&E Chem Lab, and gas sampling activities throughout NY.

This position will report to the Sr. Director Gas Operations – NY.

Major Roles and Responsibilities
• Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and contractors, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations on matters affecting Gas Operations.
• Collaborate with peers, other Avangrid operating companies, departments, and business units to identify areas for improvement to ensure operational excellence.
• Drive consistency across all Avangrid gas operating companies.
• Manage RG&E Map Room overseeing the the Gas Duty Operators in the updating of construction maps, development of procedures, and daily operations.
• Manage RG&E Chem Lab, state-wide gas sampling, equipment calibration, and associated resources.
• Act as business lead on information technology projects impacting Gas Operations. Ensure business requirements are met and positive user adoption.
• Act as liaison between Gas Operations and AMI project, ensuring the interests of both parties are met within project objectives.
• Independently lead and manage special projects and assignments from inception to completion, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget.
• Engineer risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize business impacts, such as violations and/or civil penalties.
• Manage, identify, and escalate issues and risks to Senior Leadership, implementing regular communication and updates until resolved.
• Act as a proxy for Sr. Director, as required.
• Promote and foster a culture of safety, diversity, and inclusion within the department and across the organization.

Skills and Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in the utility industry, of these 10 years 5+ years of natural gas utility experience with increasing responsibility
• 5+ years experience managing teams of employees and/or contractors
• 5+ years experience in projects related to quality and operational performance
• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams of professionals and bargaining unit personnel to achieve project goals.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement improvements.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements related to the transmission and distribution of natural gas, such as Federal (CFR 192) and State (CRR 255) regulations.
• Business process management capabilities and experience implementing process improvements and best practices.
• Experience managing remote teams and distributed projects.
