Software Engineer II – (M365 Semantic Fabric)
We are seeking innovative and skilled software developers/architects with a passion for pushing the boundaries of technology. In this role, you will contribute to developing, designing, and operating large-scale data systems that make up our next-generation platform. As a part of our team, your work will have a direct impact on people globally and on one of the world’s most significant data platforms.
What you’ll do:
• Contribute to the development of the Semantic Fabric, a cutting-edge technology delivering semantic indexing and search experiences across Microsoft Office 365.
• Collaborate with multiple engineering teams, contributing to service architecture design and implementation.
• Build scalable, high-performance software services over large datasets with low latency and high availability.
• Ensure the platform adheres to Microsoft’s strict data privacy and compliance standards.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, C/C++
o OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of Back-End Focused Engineering Experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+years experience and demonstrated proficiency in C#.
- Experience working with large-scale data systems.
- Familiarity with Semantic Search or Indexing technology is a plus.
- Experience using Rust Programming Language is a plus but not required.
- Expertise in any modern continuous delivery/deployment system.
Software Engineering IC3 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 – $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 – $198,600 per year.

Responsibilities:
As a Software Engineer II on the M365 Semantic Fabric Team, you will be entrusted with a range of responsibilities that are key to the successful development and evolution of our cutting-edge technology platform. Your responsibilities will include:
Design and Development: Collaborate with team members to design, build, and improve key components of the Semantic Fabric platform. Participate in all phases of software development including design, coding, testing, debugging, and performance tuning.
Code Implementation: Translate designs and specifications into high quality, efficient, and well-documented code. Ensure your code adheres to Microsoft’s software engineering best practices for coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Innovation and Problem Solving: Leverage your expertise to contribute innovative solutions and ideas that push the limits of our technology and solve complex problems. Continuously seek to improve software development processes and practices.
