Description

General Description

The Culinary Program Educator manages the development and scheduling of the Culinary Training Program curriculum. Supervises and coordinates all related culinary and educational activities with each kitchen rotation; creates lesson plans and assessment materials; selects and develops recipes for training purposes; standardizes training recipes to ensure consistent outcomes; establishes presentation, technique and quality standards that will be taught to students; ensures safe equipment operation is utilized by students; and overall safety and sanitation in kitchen. Directly supervises students with the authority to accept, decline, discipline, evaluate and terminate students.

Essential Functions:

  • On-going development and revision of program curriculum.
  • Create class schedule to include quizzes, and exams.
  • Demonstrate proper professional culinary techniques and methods.
  • Conduct training on proper sanitation and safety.
  • Work closely with the Nutrition Department to make certain students gain an understanding and respect for healthy cooking techniques and meal planning.
  • Closely supervise and train students.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment for students.
  • Schedule guest chefs for presentations and hands-on training activities.
  • Maintain program files, computer and hard copy.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete for each student.
  • Research and implement new SAFB program initiatives in which students can be involved.

Qualifications

  • Four years minimum experience as a certified culinary educator/instructor.
  • Three years of experience in the culinary field as a chef to include supervision of employees.
  • Formal culinary training strongly preferred or ability to verbalize and demonstrate mastery of culinary skills.
  • Food Manager’s Certification required (or ability to attain).
  • Excellent communications, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to speak in public settings.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers and agency personnel.
  • Orientation to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
  • Good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to represent the Food Bank in a courteous professional manner.
  • Ability to work with will students of varying backgrounds and education levels.
  • Possession of a current Texas driver’s license, insurance and a clean driving record.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Work Environment

This job is performed in an indoor office environment and occasionally may require attendance at outdoor events. You may be required to drive to different locations with varying conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
