POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Project Design Lead I provide all aspect of technical, administrative, and analytical support for the project design teams responsible for coordinating multiple third parties to facilitate the design process from inception through IFC drawings under the direct supervision of the Manager/ Senior Project Design Lead for one or more utility-scale solar PV, BESS and HV facilities. This role is responsible for collaborating with the Project Design Lead in facilitating communication between the internal construction and design teams to achieve a reliable, quality, and safe design that aligns with Primoris standards.
The Associate Project Design lead I will have basic knowledge of the project schedule, budget, estimate, and scope of work while working closely with the Project Design Lead.
This position is located in Denver, Colorado. Local or willing to relocate is needed. Travel to the project site (nationwide) may be required (up to 25%) to facilitate site investigations to inform the engineering design.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with team(s) in managing and directing multiple third parties to facilitate all aspects of the design from inception through IFC. Assist with the review of such design to internal subject matter experts and/or 3rd parties and ensure comments are tracked and addressed.
- Works with team to ensure the project design meets the requirements of the client and applicable safety and industry codes and standards by utilizing the Engineers of Record, internal subject matter experts, and/or third-party consultants.
- Ensures the design team has access to constraints or similar data from the client as may be applicable to the project design.
- Works with the team(s) to confirm the project design is developed with due consideration for installation means and methods and long-term operations and maintenance of the project by others. Consult Field Operations trade specialists as necessary for requirements and recommendations.
- Participates in preparing and managing RFIs and submittals during the design phase of the project. Ensure RFIs and submittals are addressed accordingly with the appropriate parties.
- Provides administrative swith engineering document control process including client and engineering transmittals, RFI’s, and associated logs through IFC.
- Participates in setting up and running design kick-off meetings; coordinate site visits related to the execution of the EOR subcontract.
- Coordinates with procurement on the Bill of Major Materials; ensure EOR and client approvals are received prior to ordering material; review potential quantity changes with design revisions against any procured materials.
- Partners with the Senior Project Design Lead / Manager in developing and maintaining a good working relationship with clients, Engineers of Record, subcontractors, vendors, and co-workers to strengthen company position. Assists the management team in displaying and promoting the company values, tenets of success and culture, while representing the company in a professional manner.
PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the engineering design process.
• Ability to coordinate multiple teams of engineers.
• Ability to manage multiple complex tasks across multiple projects and disciplines.
• Ability to give presentations to groups of up to 10 people.
• Involved with and understands 2 or more disciplines (civil, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail) and Visio.
• Effective communication (oral, written, presentation), motivation, and supervisory skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 0-2 years of experience in design leadership, project engineering, design process management, or design execution.
• Experience in utility-scale solar PV projects and/or renewable energy projects
