The starting salary for this position is $15.54 – $17.87 depending on qualifications

Semi-skilled and manual work in maintaining, cleaning of city buildings and facilities. Works requires the safe operation of hand maneuvered electrical scrubbers, waxers, buffers, mops, brooms, ladders and cleaning chemicals. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

This position is an Essential classification and will be required to report to duty, before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

This position requires scheduled/unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays and/or immediate response to emergency conditions.

  • Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Parks and Recreation Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor, painting, and semi-skilled work.
  • Maintains facility grounds, by performing litter control, pressure cleaning around the building, and other manual labor tasks.
  • Performs tasks of stripping, waxing, buffing, and general housekeeping of floors and carpets.
  • Performs litter control functions inside and outside of the facility. Cleans restrooms, and general janitorial functions
  • Collects and empties wastebaskets; collects and sorts recycling materials.
  • Sets up chairs and tables for meetings and clears area after meetings.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment and performs preventative maintenance functions on the vehicles and equipment.
  • Makes daily written and oral reports.
  • Informs and directs public in the use of facilities.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Two (2) years of any experience which would demonstrate the ability to perform the work required. Possession of valid Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of clean driving record required. CPR/AED training is required to be obtained completed within sixty (60) days from date of hire.

A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and climb a ladder up to 15 feet in height. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Personal protection equipment such as helmets, glasses, gloves, and breathing apparatuses may be required as necessary. Steel toe or composite toe shoes are mandatory.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, heights, and stressful situations. The employee works with hazardous power tools and is exposed to heights up to 15 feet.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

2 days for non-exempt employees per year
