Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

Gas Transmission Operations is responsible for maintaining over 6,000 miles of gas transmission pipelines throughout California. This Department is responsible for the overall administration and implementation of the Transmission Integrity Management Program and the evaluation of overall risk to the gas transmission system. This includes overseeing the completion of integrity management assessments, identifying High Consequence Areas (HCA), maintaining PG&E’s assessment plan as required by 49 CFR Subpart O, and managing PG&E’s overall gas risk management program.

Position Summary

The position will utilize and apply working knowledge in code compliance, Integrity Management, and gas transmission operations to support execution and improvement of pipeline Risk and threat assessment. This position will work with a larger team of engineers and Data specialists to implement and support the requirements of 49 CFR Part 192, Subpart O. The IM Engineer will work with many internal stakeholders such as Codes and Standards, Gas Transmission Engineering & Design, and Facilities Integrity Management. The IM Engineer will be responsible for supporting the annual update processes of the Quantitative Risk Algorithm for PG&E’s gas transmission pipe assets, incorporating industry knowledge, PG&E’s operating experience, and findings from big data analytics.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although, we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Annual Minimum: $122,000.00

Annual Maximum: $194,000.00

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety is a priority for self & team and meet all safety requirements.
  • Lead project initiatives and collaborate with other key stakeholders to improve process, procedures, or data and effectively communicate results to leadership
  • Ability to analyze large datasets (400,000+ rows of PFL data)
  • Strong understanding, or ability to learn, different environmental factors (soils, cathodic protection, coatings) and pipeline design
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers within TIMP Risk Management
  • May interface with clients regarding status of project or to collect more information. Ensures client expectations for project are met
  • Assists senior peers on more complex tests and projects, participating in planning, budgeting and testing.
  • Collaborates with peers to prepare technical reports and specifications and to identify, define, and solve problems.
  • Independently performs routine engineering analysis and performs lead role in determining scope, schedule, budget and resources needed. Prepares cost and materials estimates for use in client bid proposals.
  • May review test design of Associate level engineers to determine effectiveness and if objectives of project will be obtained.
  • Participates in identifying innovations and cost-reduction potential of new and existing technologies.
  • Develops test protocols, models, test technologies and analyzes data. May assist in the development of technical policies and procedures

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering with emphasis on related/assigned discipline (i.e., mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, etc.)
  • Three (3) years’ experience in gas transmission or distribution design, operations, and/or maintenance environment

Desired:

  • Experience in natural gas, or related, 1 year
  • PE-Professional Engineer license
