Description
Under the direction of the Parks Supervisor, the Irrigation Specialist will perform skilled maintenance work on irrigation systems and semi-skilled park maintenance. Oversees irrigation and sprinkler system water resources; plans, designs, and maintains sprinkler systems for the department as well as other city locations.
Examples of Duties

  • Maintains accurate and sufficient irrigation to all landscaped areas in the City of Wildwood. Maintains sprinkler systems and repairs and installation of sprinkler lines and heads to ensure water conservation and grounds/plant/lawn health and viability
  • Will assist in mowing and maintaining park and open space areas such as baseball and soccer fields; mows, weeds, cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets
  • Repairs sprinkler system including electrical clocks, irrigation heads, pumps, and pipes
  • Services, maintains, and programs a variety of irrigation controllers including, but not limited to, mechanical, solar battery, digital, and radio/computer-controlled systems
  • Ensures water is dispersed at proper pressure and in accordance with any watering restrictions imposed by regulatory agencies; makes adjustments or repairs as necessary
  • Makes recommendations concerning renovation and installation of new irrigation systems assists in planning new improvements around the city
  • Operates tractors, mowers, sprayers, turf equipment, trucks and other listed equipment as needed
  • Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various parks and recreation programs, prepares facilities for parks and recreations program use
  • Installs and maintains goalposts and nets for sports facilities, including soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, and basketball
  • Assists in the construction of new parks facilities, including cleaning, grading, drainage, and foundation work
  • Principles and practices of grounds irrigation. Methods and materials used to repair irrigation systems
  • Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions
  • Maintains inventory of irrigation-related supplies and keeps certification(s) up to date
  • Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work
  • Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment, such as checking oil and fluid levels, checking tire pressure, and checking belts
  • Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools; including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems
  • Dump garbage and reline cans with liners, empty trash cans
  • Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises
  • Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed
  • Keeps records of work completed if requested
  • All other job duties as required

Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience related to the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems or outdoor plumbing
  • Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with CDL endorsement, or ability to obtain one
  • Irrigation Design certification desired
  • Shows knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance; knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions
  • Must have electro-mechanical aptitude
  • Skill in operations of listed tools and equipment
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public
